After The Kidling behaved almost perfectly on our painfully long trip home from Wisconsin Dells Sunday, I decided to give her a shirt I bought forever ago and have been saving as a reward.
Seriously. Is that the best darned thing you’ve ever seen?
Just as I hoped, my little dinosaur lover was delighted. She couldn’t put it on soon enough. The pajamas came off and the shirt went on. Alice proudly declared, “This is a paleontologist shirt.”
The Mama: Better put your skirt on.
Alice: No. That’s not what paleontologists wear.
The Mama: Oh. So paleontologists just wear T. Rex shirts and underwear?
Alice: Yes.
The Mama: (laughs)
Alice: Really, Mom. It’s true. That’s what paleontologists wear. Sometimes they do. Really. (thinks for a moment and rejects the skirt. Selects, instead, a pair of jeans) I want jeans. That’s what paleontologists wear. I know, because that’s what I saw Dr. Scott wear.
The Mama: (grabs a pen and piece of paper)
Alice: What are you writing? A story? Are you writing ‘paleontologists wear pants’ ?
Yes, in fact. **sigh** I can’t get anything by this kid.
You gotta love the Kidling
Indeed I do! Thanks for appreciating her silliness. It warms my heart.
Logan asked me to tell Alice that her mom needs to get her a hat and vest too. Then she can be more like a paleontologist. Oh, and he wants a shirt just like that! AND maybe they can dig for dinosaur bones together, “you know like some day…” *shoulder shrug*
Brilliant! They can be colleagues. I will go looking for a vest that meets Logan’s expectations. I don’t know much about the wardrobe requirements of a paleontologist, but I will do my very best to ensure they can dig together, you know, like some day.
By the way, Sheri, I got the shirt on Etsy. The good folks at dark cycle clothing will let you choose any color tee to put it on. Which is awesome. Here is the listing: http://www.etsy.com/listing/61665829/boys-dinosaur-t-rex-on-bicycle-t-shirt
I hope he loves it as much as Alice does!
Oh thank you!!
My pleasure!
Eventually she is going to start asking you to read what you wrote.
I rue the day, Shannon. Thankfully she cannot yet read. Once she can, I am B-U-S-T-E-D.
I don’t know how you are going to stay ahead of this girl…she’s onto you mama!!!
I know. I am in so deep here.
You really are dear one, you really are – and you’re going to love every minute…What other choice do you have? 🙂
Exactly none.
